What's Been Happening

We began the festive season in style with our Christmas Fair, which proved to be a huge success. Santa’s Grotto was as popular as ever, with many excited visitors and we were delighted to welcome a special guest appearance from Bluey (with thanks to Tykie Times Discos). The craft stalls looked amazing and fun was certainly had by all!  We also enjoyed a wonderfully creative Wreath Making Workshop, which added even more festive spirit to the start of December.

Hot on the heels of the wreath making, came our Seniors’ Free Christmas Lunch (see photo). The hall was filled with warmth, laughter and a truly wonderful atmosphere.  A heartfelt thank you to our hardworking volunteers, everyone who attended and those who kindly made donations.  Your generosity helps support two important local causes — the Children’s Roundabout Fund for our village’s outdoor space and St Paul’s Church, where contributions will help with essential maintenance. Our local church has recently faced significant repair needs and community support is helping ensure it remains open and available for everyone to use.

Our final event of the year is the Christmas Party on Saturday 13th December, 6.30pm–late. Tickets are still available online at kmh1958.co.uk for £25 per person. The evening will include live music from The All Tones, a welcome drink, festive hot and cold platters and the bar will be open throughout (see poster). We’d love to see you there!

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the Magic of Christmas family party and children’s disco that was planned for Sunday 14th December due to low numbers. The good news is that we are already planning something special for the children next year — so watch this space!

As the year draws to a close, it feels like the perfect moment to look back and reflect on life at Knowbury Memorial Hall. It has certainly been a busy one! We kicked off 2025 with a hugely successful Burns Night, which we are excited to host again on Saturday 24th January 2026.   Be quick — only a few tickets remain!  See our poster below for details.

We’ve also refreshed the hall with new décor and a refurbished bar area. Throughout the year we’ve enjoyed Games Café, Coffee & Cake Mornings, Breakfast Club and Thursday Social Nights, along with big events such as the Masquerade Ball, Oktoberfest and Fireworks Night.  It’s been a joy to see the hall so well used this year and we look forward to welcoming even more of you through the doors in the months ahead as we begin an exciting new year for Knowbury Memorial Hall.

As we ease into the year ahead, we wanted to let everyone know that Thursday Social Nights will not be running during January and there will also be no Coffee & Cake Morning next month. We hope you all enjoy a restful start to the year and we look forward to welcoming you back to these much-loved gatherings later in February 2026. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Our sincere thanks go out to all of our fantastic volunteers and to everyone who supports the hall. Without you, none of this would be possible.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

Knowbury Memorial Hall recently held its Annual General Meeting, where members of the public joined us to share their thoughts about the hall. We received a mix of feedback, some very positive and some more critical.  We want to thank everyone who took the time to attend and offer their views. All comments have been taken on board as we continue to make improvements to our much-loved community space.

Our Oktoberfest celebration was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who came along! We received fantastic feedback from attendees and our special lager on draught brought in for the occasion proved to be a real hit.  Our sincere thanks to all the volunteers and supporters who helped make the evening such a great success.

Before the fireworks begin, don’t forget our ever-popular Coffee & Cake Morning on Saturday 1st November, from 10am to noon. Come along for a friendly catch-up over tea, coffee and delicious homemade cakes, everyone is very welcome!

Then we move on to the next two big seasonal events:

  • Bonfire & Fireworks Display – Friday 8th November

Gates open at 6pm, with hot food, refreshments and our fully licensed bar available throughout the evening. It promises to be a brilliant night for all ages!

  • Annual Christmas Fair

Get into the festive spirit at our much-loved Christmas Fair, Sunday 23rd November, 11am-2pm.  Browse a wonderful selection of artisan crafts and gifts, perfect for your Christmas shopping. There’ll be games for children, including tombola and snowball toss, along with homemade cakes, hot food and refreshments to enjoy throughout the day.

And of course, Santa’s Grotto will be open for magical visits!

To help us ensure there are enough gifts for every child, we’re encouraging pre-bookings for Santa’s Grotto at £3 per child.

Please contact Christine on 07926 985620 or book online at kmh1958@co.uk to reserve your place.

Walk-ins will still be warmly welcomed on the day, we’d love to see as many smiling faces as possible!

In addition to these special events, our regular activities continue:

  • Ballroom Dancing every Monday evening (contact Alan on 07890 707759 for details).

  • Thursday Social Nights each week (except the first Thursday of the month when the ever-popular Quiz Night takes place). The Social Nights feature a different food offering every week, so there’s always something new to enjoy!

Looking Ahead

The festive season is just around the corner and we’ve got even more events to look forward to at Knowbury Memorial Hall:

  • FREE Seniors’ Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 3rd December, 12.30pm, invites will be sent out, RSVP to hall.

A special thank-you to our local villagers aged 65 and over — come and enjoy a festive meal on us!

  • Christmas Party Night – Saturday 13th December, 6.30pm to late, £25.

An evening of festive platters, live music and a fully stocked bar — the perfect way to celebrate the season with friends and neighbours.

  • The Magic of Christmas: Family Party & Kids’ Disco – Sunday 14th December, 3pm-5.30pm, £5.

A fun-filled afternoon for all the family, with music, dancing and Christmas cheer for everyone!  A buffet will be provided and during the event, Santa will make an appearance, handing out a small gift to the children — adding an extra touch of magic to this joyful family celebration.  For the grown-ups our fully licensed bar will also be open through-out the afternoon, so everyone can join in the festive fun.

A Busy September: Back on the Dance Floor

It’s been a lively month at KMH, with plenty of activities bringing people together. Our Coffee & Cake Morning was as popular as ever and it’s always lovely to see neighbours catching up over a cuppa. Regular groups such as Dance Fit, Ballet and Thursday Social Nights continue to keep the hall buzzing!

After the summer break, Ballroom & Sequence Dancing has returned to KMH on Monday evenings and what a joy it has been! The hall has been filled with laughter, music and plenty of dancing feet. Whether you’ve danced for years or never tried a waltz before, these evenings are all about fun, learning at your own pace and enjoying time together. If you’d like to give it a go, call Alan on 07890 707759 for details.

What’s Next

Looking ahead, our Breakfast Club is back this Saturday (20th September) perfect for a hearty start to the weekend. Later in the month, all eyes are on our Annual General Meeting and of course, don’t forget our ever-popular Coffee & Cake Mornings, held on the first Saturday of each month.

Spotlight on Oktoberfest – Saturday 4th October, 6pm–late

Our biggest event of the season is nearly here! Join us for a Bavarian evening of hearty food, live music and plenty of cheer all right here in Knowbury. Tickets are just £22.50, which includes a bite to eat and entertainment.

Have Your Say – Annual General Meeting, Monday 14th October

This year, we’re putting a real focus on the AGM, which takes place at 7.30pm on Monday 14th October. Usually, only one or two members of the public attend but we’d love to change that. It’s your chance to share ideas, raise suggestions and help shape the future of the hall.

It’s an informal and welcoming meeting with free refreshments (tea, coffee, wine and biscuits) and your input makes all the difference. Please come along and let your voice be heard.

Santa’s Grotto – Don’t Miss Out!

Santa is looking forward to meeting all the children at the Christmas Fair on Sunday 23rd November and his elves are busy wrapping gifts. To help them make sure there are enough presents for every child, it really helps if families can book their grotto visits in advance (£3 per child). Walk-ins on the day are still very welcome but booking ahead gives Santa’s helpers time to prepare something special for everyone. To reserve a place, please contact Christine on 07926 985620 or email knowburymemorialhall@gmail.com.
